Is Heinz Ketchup vegan? You’re in luck! Heinz doesn’t use any animal products in their ketchups – except for one.
When you google this question, every other page says – yes, all Heinz products are vegan-friendly. They claim that Heinz doesn’t use sugar or any animal products. I think they haven’t updated their information in a while.
I got the following information straight from the Heinz US website in January 2022.
The one non-vegan Heinz ketchup
They use high-fructose corn syrup in their original ketchup, sugar in their Simply Heinz Ketchup and Organic Heinz Ketchup, and here’s the problematic one – Heinz Tomato Ketchup Sweetened Only with Honey.
So if you’re vegan, then you need to avoid their honey-sweetened ketchup. But are the sugar-sweetened varieties a problem?
Why is sugar problematic?
Some refined sugar is processed using bone char, which whitens and purifies the sugar. That bone char has its origins in bones from slaughterhouses.
Luckily, Heinz has confirmed that they don’t use sugar that’s been refined using bone char. So that means that the sugar in their products are fine!
A note on location
What I’ve written is true for the US, UK, Canada and Australia (as of January 2022). However, Heinz is sold in so many countries around the world.
It’s impossible for me to say that Heinz ketchup is vegan in every country in the world.
I gathered information directly from the Heinz website at the time of writing in January 2022. But things can always change so it’s extremely important to check your labels.
You really need to check every single time you buy something processed like ketchup because companies can change their recipes at any time! Sometimes companies are nice and make a note of that on the label, but they usually don’t.
I hope I’ve answered your question on whether or not Heinz Ketchup is vegan. :) If you have any other questions, please leave a comment below and I’ll be happy to help answer them.
